MAISON MARGIELA

The brand was founded by Martin Margiela in 1988, Paris, France. Margiela was born in 1959, in Genk, Belgium. After graduating from Antwerp’s Royal Academy, he built his career working for Jean-Paul Gaultier. As an independent brand he joined Paris Fashion Week in 1989. His significant style heavily influenced the fashion industry, including the brand’s spiritual and unique characteristics such as the designer’s anonymity, its conceptual designs and the categorisation of products using numbers. In 2002 they joined OTB group, working on the design as a team. In 2014 John Galliano was assigned creative director, and in 2015 the brand was renamed “Maison Margiela”. Their iconic styles include design process called décortiqué, as well as concepts such as deconstruction and genderlessness.
